The region
The Midi Pyrenees region is one of the largest departments in France. Tarn et Garonne a small area or county within the Midi Pyrenees, and on the edge of Gascony, should really be known as the Orchard of France as it is so rich in fruit and vegetable production.
The climate here is essentially Mediterranean and free from persistent winds like the Mistral. Temperatures range from T shirt weather in April and an average summer heat in the 30's. However, it doesn't start to cool until the middle of October when fleeces are needed in the evenings.
Described as the "The California of Europe" with over 2000 hours of sunshine each year, it means that even in winter the area is blessed with bright crisp and sunny days, ideal for brisk invigorating walks in beautiful countryside.
The local area is green and lush with a mixture of deciduous woodland containing many oak and ash trees, with its rolling hills it resembles parts of Sussex in Southern England at certain times of the year.
For lovers of the wildlife there are birds of prey, hoopoe, woodpeckers, kingfishers, wild boar, deer, red squirrels and much more.
Just over 2 hours from the ski slopes, 2 hours from the Atlantic coast, 1 hour from Toulouse, 2 hours from Bordeaux, 2 hours from Carcassonne and 3 hours from the Mediterranean coast makes the location central for day trips all over the South West whatever your requirements.
