Auvillar – Plus Beau Village De France

Le Farat, Auvillar – A Beautiful Location

You will find Le Farat nestled in an idyllic part of South West France. Birdsong is often the only sound you will hear and we are surrounded by the fantastic rolling countryside of the Tarn et Garonne Départment.

That said, you can stroll to the the nearby hamlet of Bardigues and enjoy the fantastic fayre on offer at the locally renowned Auberge de Bardigues (advanced booking required) or head into Auvillar (5 minutes by car) and enjoy the historic monuments, museums, shops and markets.

Auvillar, a medieval bastide village with its unusual circular corn exchange and impressive views over the Garonne valley, is listed as one of the Plus Beaux Villages de France. It is also an important stop on the famous pilgrims walking route through France “Le Chemin de Saint Jacques-de-Compostelle” or “Way of Saint James”.

What Makes Auvillar Special?

Historically Auvillar was an important stronghold in the Gallo-Roman period and housed an affluent community. Evidence has been found to suggest that it was possibly rebuilt in the Middle Ages and its social and economic existence is clearly linked to the river Garonne.

Today the beautiful village of about 1,000 residents has many charming attractions with a weekly farmers market, local restaurants, and a variety of shops including a bakery, grocer, newsagent, post office, a chemist and local produce gift shop. There is even a hairdresser if the need takes you!
